I think getting a promotion might be a bridge too far, I've only been at my company for about two weeks.

 

 

Planning to climb Mount Fuji in a one day is probably a bridge too far

 

 

A: I want to be fluent in Japanese by next year!

 

B: That's a bridge too far i think, you've only been learning Japanese for a week!

 

 

 

What does "Bridge too far" mean?


Lazy

Too ambitious and unrealistic

Slow

We say something is 'a bridge too far' when an action or idea is unrealistic and too hard to do.

 

We often use it when something too ambitious, for example ' I want to become famous pop star'

 

It doesn't actually mean there is a bridge!
