A: Oh no! The shirt I wanted to buy has gone!

 

A: Guess, you've missed the boat there.

 

What does "Miss the boat" mean?

We say 'miss the boat' when an opportunity to do something disappears .

 

We often use it when somebody doesn't do something, and now they have missed an opportunity.

 

It doesn't actually mean the person didn't ride a boat!
